Delbarton School Headmaster Accused of Child Sexual Misconduct

In a statement released Thursday, Rev. Giles Hayes, the abbot at St. Mary's, said the incidents involved "a minor boundary violation with an adult" and that his conduct "was not criminal." Anthony S. Cicatiello, a spokesman for the St. Mary's Abbey that runs Delbarton School, claims the church has been investigating Father Luke Travers since June 2011.
While Father Travers is under investigation, the Rev. Adrian Harmenning has replaced him as administrator at the Virginia abbey.

Delbarton is an elite college preparatory academy situated in Morristown, New Jersey. Travers, a Benedictine monk and former administrator at Mary Mother of the Church Abbey in Virginia is under investigation while he was headmaster for sexual misconduct.

According to Hayes, the complaint was turned over to the local prosecutor's office, which declined to press charges. Capt. Jeff Paul, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office, declined to comment on whether or not Travers was under active investigation.

'Because he loved me.'

The Benedictine monk had been serving as non-residential administrator at the Mary Mother of the Church Abbey since 2010 when a letter was sent to church officials alleging that Travers, 55, had sexually harassed at least two former students at Delbarton.

The letter came from a Washington man named Patrick Marker, who advocates for victims of sexual misconduct within the church. Two victims of Traver's attentions had reached out to him in the past few months and Marker was demanding that the church take action.

One victim claimed in the 1980s, then-headmaster Luke Travers had grabbed his crotch and butt and asked him inappropriate questions about his girlfriend. The former student was then about 14 years old.

Another, according to NBC, stated that Travers "crossed boundaries which betrayed the inherent trust which is sacred to his position as a teacher and a priest." According to the victim, who alleged that the first incidents began in the 1990s, Travers became more aggressive when the boy came to him after his father died. According to the letter, Travers offered the high schooler and began kissing his neck and ears.

When the young man tried to get him to stop, Travers kept going. "[He said there was] nothing wrong with what he was doing, because he loved me," the second victim wrote. When the second victim returned to Delbarton after graduating, he claims that Travers asked the adult teen to run away with him.

According to Marker, who says he himself was abused in 1983 at a Minnesota prep school run by Benedictine monks, Travers is a sexual predator, a monk who has been grooming victims for his sexual abuse for years without reprisal.

'It was a shock to us.'

According to church official, Travers only visited the abbey a few times a month, and remains a resident of New Jersey. Although the Richmond, Va. abbey owns and operates Benedictine College Preparatory school, Harmenning claims that Travers had no personal contact with the students.

But while the Benedictine monk may not have been involved in the abbey's prep school, Travers had been allowed to say Mass for students over the past few months, despite being under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct.

According to Cicatiello, at Delbarton, Travers has been under investigation for months, and had been placed under restrictions that barred him from contact with anyone under 25. He was not supposed to have any contact with students, and was banned from saying Mass for anyone other than his fellow monks.

If that was the case, however, Harmenning never heard of it. According to him, the Virginia abbey knew nothing about Travers' restrictions, or that he was under investigation, until the fateful letter arrived.

"It was a shock to us as much as it was to anybody else," Harmenning said.

Travers Returns to New Jersey Monastery

According to the Paterson Diocese website, Father Travers was ordained in 1986 at St. Mary's Abbey in Morris Township.

He received a bachelor's degree from Columbia University in 1979, a master's degree in theology from The Catholic University of America in 1984 and a master's of education degree from Harvard in 1999.

He served Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Church in Cedar Knolls and Corpus Christi Church in Chatham Township before becoming headmaster at Delbarton.
Harmenning said the Rev. Luke Travers had returned to his New Jersey monastery while the church conducted its investigation. A message there was not immediately returned.

'...what really happened behind those walls.'

Patrick Marker, having learned of the Mary Mother of the Church Abbey's response, said he was pleased by their quick reaction.

"It's not a bold move, it's the right move," he said of . "It's a move he [Harmenning] should have never had to make if the officials in New Jersey and the officials of the American Cassinese Congregation [which oversees both abbeys] had done their job."

Mark Serrano, a national advocate for sex abuse victims, was similarly furious with church officials at Delbarton and those higher up in the ACC, saying their handling of the allegations is suspicious at best and questioning why they didn't inform the Va. abbey of the investigation into Travers that began in June.

"I wouldn't trust the school's characterization of the incidents as 'minor' until we know all the facts," Serrano told NJ.com. "In the meantime, we must make sure Travers has no contact with children."

Marker, meanwhile, is preparing for the brunt of the Delbarton and St. Mary's "PR machine and legal team." He feels he's more than prepared for whatever they throw his way.

"I'm ready for it," he said, noting how hard it can be for victims of sexual "misconduct" to come forward when faced with the institutional might of the Church and a place like Delabarton school.

"I've got victims who are calling me, crying about the relationships and about what really happened behind those walls."

48 Catholic Elementary and High Schools in Philadelphia Closing

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced that they plan to shut down about a quarter of its Roman Catholic high schools. Nearly 30% of it's elementary schools will either be closed or combined because of rising costs and low enrollment.

"We can't afford to fool ourselves," Archbishop Charles Chaput said at a news conference. "We need an honest response to serious losses that have been happening year after year in some of our schools. And this will continue to happen if we do nothing."

The system's current enrollment of 68,000 students is the same number the archdiocese served in 1911. It also represents a 35 percent drop in the student population since 2001. The archdiocese already had closed 30 schools during the past five years, leaving 178 schools in the city and four surrounding counties.

The closures announced Friday will reduce that number dramatically.
"It's extremely sad," said Rita Schwartz, president of the local chapter of the Association of Catholic Teachers. "Right now, there is a grieving process going on in 44 elementary schools and four high schools."

Officials estimated about 1,700 teachers and 85 administrators would be displaced and have to reapply for positions in newly consolidated schools.

Superintendent Mary Rochford estimated that about 300 teachers could be out of jobs once the dust has settled.

The Blue Ribbon Commission, created in December of 2010 by Chaput's predecessor, Cardinal Justin Rigali recommended the closures. Chaput said he'd accept the commission's recommendations barring any major factual error in their report.

In Philadelphia, the commission's analysis revealed that the average parish subsidy to schools had grown from $255,000 to $320,000 over the past 10 years. It also showed that elementary school tuition rates fell $1,500 short of the actual cost of educating each child.

The mean annual elementary tuition in the U.S. is $3,383, according to the National Catholic Education Association. The mean annual high school tuition is $8,787. These numbers vary in each Catholic school in Philadelphia.

The commission's report also set forth strategies for sustaining the Catholic system for future generations. Philadelphia has the second-highest enrollment among dioceses nationwide, just behind Chicago, according to the education association.

Chaput was told the commission's proposals could mean the archdiocese might go 10 to 15 years without more school closings. He also stressed that Catholic school closings affect educational choices for families of all faiths. Especially in troubled urban neighborhoods, Catholic schools are often seen as a safer and more enriching alternative to failing public schools.

Mayor Michael Nutter issued a statement Friday that read in part: "Let's not forget that we are one city, and we're all in this together."

Nationwide, Catholic schools have lost more than 587,000 students since 2000, according to the National Catholic Education Association. At least 1,750 schools have closed.

Vanessa Long first filed a petition for divorce Thursday. After reports Friday that she would withdraw the petition, her lawyer said she was indeed moving forward with divorce proceedings. As AP explained:

Long’s wife, Vanessa Long, filed a petition for divorce Thursday in DeKalb County Superior Court to end her 21-year marriage to the embattled minister. The church sent out a press release Friday morning saying Vanessa Long planned to withdraw her petition, but her attorney said later in the day that she had changed her mind.

In her petition, Vanessa Long indicated that the marriage is “irretrievably broken” and that there was “no hope of reconciliation of the parties.” She asked the court for temporary and permanent alimony, as well as attorneys’ fees and an equitable division of marital and non-marital property.
“Vanessa and I are working together in seeking God’s will in our current circumstances,” Eddie Long said in a written statement.

According to the divorce petition, the couple is “currently living in a bona fide state of separation.”

The ability of Victoria Police to extradite Brother Hartman from the United States to face sexual abuse charges has increased greatly due to the emergence of several victims.
The church failed to tell Ms Ashcroft or the police that she was not the only complainant about Brother Hartman's alleged paedophilia. Ms Ashcroft reported Brother Hartman to the Catholic church in 1999 and also received a written apology from the brother, who in the '90s left Australia for the US where he remains working as a Marianist.

Another female victim, who asked for her identity to be protected, claims that around 1993, she told several Melbourne Catholic church officials that she had been sexually abused by Brother Hartman.
The woman claims she was told by church officials that Brother Hartman would be ''monitored'' by the church in the US. But she insisted that the church did nothing to ensure he would be held accountable in the Victorian criminal justice system and that church officials did not pass on her allegations to police. ''I'd like him returned to Australia and to be charged and jailed. That is what the victims deserve from our justice system,'' she said.

3 Year Statute of Limitation frees Priest and Nun of Child Abuse in a Boarding School

In Iron Wing v. Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls, (SD Sup. Ct., Nov. 30, 2011), the South Dakota Supreme Court held that a lawsuit filed in 2008 by a victim of clergy sexual abuse committed over 40 years earlier is barred by the statute of limitations.

D.Z. Iron Wing, 64, attended the St. Paul's Indian School from first through eleventh grade on the Yankton Sioux Reservation. But he waited too long to file his lawsuit, the court ruled, citing a state law that places a three-year statute of limitations in abuse cases. SDCL 26-10-25 requires the suit to be brought "within three years of the act alleged tohave caused the injury or condition, or three years of the time the victim discovered or reasonably should have discovered that the injury or condition was caused by the act, whichever period expires later." The court said:

“Inquiry notice is determined by an objective standard.” ... Although Iron Wing perhaps subjectively could not “connect the full extent of his injuries to the sexual abuse, he was aware of enough facts to put him on inquiry notice.”... He knew he had been abused by two members of a religious order beginning when he was age ten and resuming at age thirteen, because of this abuse he was angry and harbored hatred against the church and its priests and nuns from the time he was in the eleventh grade, he left the school because of the abuse, and he never forgot the abuse. These circumstances were sufficient to “prompt a reasonably prudent person to seek out information regarding his injury or condition and its cause."

Accusation against Cardinal Bagnasco for Covering up Child Abuse

Cardinal Bagnasco, expert in Pedophilia Coverup

A complaint against the President of the CEI, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco , and the bishop of the Diocese of Savona, Vittorio Lupi , has been filed with the Prosecutor of the Republic of Savona by Francesco Zanardi, a spokesman for the Abuse Association who has been fighting against pedophilia committed by catholic priests. In the complaint, Zanardi asks, among other things, to ascertain the criminal punishment of the bishop and Cardinal Bagnasco for not reporting pedophile priests.

Zanardi, who lives in Savona, is known for his battles against pedophile priests. In fact, he recently concluded a hunger strike against pedophile priests which began Oct, 31, where he was requesting the European Commission to cancel the sovereign state privilege of the Vatican for good.

Zanardi, a victim of sexual harassment by a priest, completed a pilgrimage journey this past summer where he walked from Savona to the Holy See to request a meeting with the Vatican, but was denied. This prompted him to turn away from seeking further communication with the Pope who seemed largely uninterested in addressing pedophilia, and now seeks to meet with the President of the European Commission Barroso to show irrefutable evidence of why the Vatican should not have the status as a Sovereign State within the territory of Italy.

Just What Is Being Exposited Here?

Dear Mr. Rodrigues:

I acknowledge that the Brantford Expositor isn't the Washington Post orthe Manchester Guardian, or even Der Spiegel, but just what planet are you andyour editorial staff professing to exposit?

You recently fired off an exposition entitled “Sensationalism at itsgreatest,” rejecting the recent efforts of the Mohawk Elders and clan mothers,together with Kevin Annett and the International Tribunal Into The Crimes ofChurch and State (ITCCS), to conduct a forensic examination into a suspectedmass grave site (one of at least 28 documented to exist across Canada).

In doing so, you extolled the virtues of Chief Bill Monture and the “MohawkTribal Council,” as the ultimate fount of all knowledge, Mohawk-wise, finalauthority and critic of what is going on.

First of all, let's clarify the chain of command – and credibility – here.

You refer to “elected” band council, which has a ring of authority, all right.You must know, living in

Brantford, that “elected” isa white man's word, and whenever it's pinned to chief or a council, it's thetip off that these boys are marching not to Mohawk drums but to the Ottawavariety: they're payroll Indians, and they're answerable not to their peoplebut to John Duncan, the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, Stephen Harper andthe federal government. So much for your expert witnesses.

Your next observation is that “Members of the Mohawk Nation” invitedKevin Annett to the site “and are
behind claims that the remains found belong to former residents at the school.”

Before dissing all of that, you refer to Kevin Annett as a formerAnglican Priest. Wow. Even at his worst, when he strove unsuccessfully tosquare his Christian upbringing and his Master of Divinity degree with thecriminal shenanigans of the United Church of Canada (Indian land sales toMacMillan Bloedel, the incarceration, torture, sodomy, rape and murder of 50%of their students, rather than graduating them cum laude), hewould have been insulted by being described as a minion of that neutered,pseudo-Catholic religion that owes its existence to a fat, horny 17^th CenturyEnglish monarch who wanted multiple annulments that pious Rome would not grant.

Anyway, you're right in your use of the word “former.” The UCC threw himout in 1995 because he insisted on the truth, and he has the lumps (17 yearsworth) to prove it. Loss of his livelihood, harassment, including physicalassault, and treated like a pariah in his own country by the establishment, thegovernment, the RCMP and the media – much bigger, better and more powerful thanthe Brantford Expositor, so you're in good company.

By your definition, Kevin is “an activist.” You should have called him an“occupier.” That, with Wall Street implications, would have completed hiscastigation.

Now let's deal with the matter of “reputable archaeological processes,”as defined by those two experts, Bill Monture and Hugo Rodrigues. By nowyou may have discerned that Kevin is my son, so you can immediately discounteverything I say as nepotism of the worst kind. However, in my lurid past Ionce served as President of the Manitoba Archaeological Society. On manyoccasions, while still a teen-age boy, Kevin participated in professional digscarried out by that Society. There is no one in this whole altercation better ablethan Kevin to understand the importance of the professional integrity of aforensic archaeological examination, and the simple fact that once excavated, asite is virtually destroyed. (This, in fact, has prompted the government andthe churches and the RCMP on more than one occasion to do just that. If I'mwrong, I invite you - and them - to sue me.)

The Mohawk Elders, supported by the clan mothers, with the cooperation ofthe ITCCS, conducted GPR (ground penetrating radar) operations with the use ofmachines that approximate the technology used in the extractive industries,known as aerial magnetometer surveys. On the basis of those findings, theyexcavated. (It's significant to point out that for some time, at taxpayerexpense, Bill Monture and his “elected” payroll Indians have been in possessionof such expensive equipment and have done squat. Nada. Zip. I wonder why?)

Thefindings of the Elders, i.e. specimens of bones, clothing, buttons, shoes andresidues of coal (as in “furnace,” the normal repository of dead children,according to generations of witnesses documented over 20 years, the subject notonly of three books, an award-winning film and Government reports dated since

1907). The bone fragments have recently been authenticated andconfirmed by a professional archaeologist.

Hugo, what really cracked me up was your closing attribution to BillMonture of the final summation: “You can't just dig a hole and say you've foundsome stuff," Montour said in a phone interview. No kidding. Then:"There are rules in Ontario for archeological digs... that's how it shouldhave been done. If they found bones or fragments, then maybe the coroner shouldhave been contacted."

The coroner. Of course. Government employee. Just like Bill Monture, thetribal council, the RCMP and all the ships at sea. The government will get itright, like they have for 150 years. The Mohawk elders know better. This issovereign land, and they've served notice that the payroll Indians, thegovernment, the Crown and the Vatican are to stay out of this. This is one casewhere the foxes will not be trusted to guard the henhouse.

But that isn't the item, Hugo. Note what Bill Monture said: "Justdigging a hole is a grave disrespect for those human remains..."

Three hundred other nations in Turtle Island who have attended 500 formerrez schools, take note. In 141 of those cases, according to the Canadiangovernment's own records, 50% of all the 150,000 kids who were incarceratednever graduated cum laude, or returned home, or were ever seenagain. Gee, I wonder where they went?

Well, given all that lovely Catholic, Anglican and United Christianteaching, perhaps they just rose bodily into Canadian Heaven. Surely the Popecould have arranged that, if not the Anglican Primate or Mardi Tindall, the UCCModerator.

Otherwise, why don't we stop nit-picking about who's authentic, the Mohawkpeople or John Duncan, who has admitted he can't stomach salmon hash or frybread?

Monture is admitting what the Mohawk elders have proven. There are humanremains, requiring only to measure up to Bill Monture's exacting standards.

Kevin Annett Announces Find of Children Remains at Occupy Toronto

Vatican Crimes Exposed Organization was honored to be present at Occupy Toronto to document the special announcement made by Kevin Annett, Secretary of the International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State (ITCCS), where he demonstrated for the first time, children's bones discovered at Canada's oldest Church-run Indian residential school - Mohawk Institute in Brantford.

The state worked hand in hand with the churches - anglican, catholic, presbyterian, mennonite, and more - to cover up these crimes against humanity where 150,000 children were stolen from their families and placed in religious institutes where they were tortured, abused and even murdered. European Commission to Take Legal Action against Vatican in Holocaust Money Laundering Case

Washington DC: When the European Commission referred a long running Holocaust money laundering case against the Vatican Bank to the newly organized Autorità di Informazione Finanziaria, the Vatican agency tasked with anti money laundering, it left open the possibility of legal action by the European Commission against the Vatican.

Now the attorney for over a thousand claimants is asking the European Commission to take action after the Autorità di Informazione Finanziaria deliberately ignored his complaint. Dr. Jonathan Levy is accusing the Vatican of misfeasance and violating European anti money laundering laws. The Vatican is an associate member of the Eurozone (it issues Euros) and part of the European Anti Money Laundering regime through the Vatican Bank and must adhere to certain Directives.

Levy states the Autorità di Informazione Finanziaria is merely continuing a long running fight against an audit of certain accounts at the Vatican Bank belonging to the Franciscan Order and the Diocese of Zagreb. Levy first made his request for an accounting in 1999 and went on to sue the Vatican Bank and Franciscan Order. The case was dismissed in 2010 after a United States appeals court stated it had no jurisdiction.

In correspondence earlier this year from the European Commission, an official indicated the European Commission could institute legal proceedings against the Vatican City State if it violates European anti money laundering Directives. (Benjamin Angel to Jonathan Levy, January 4, 2011).

According to Levy, the Vatican cannot continue to ignore post war money laundering allegations of gold looted from former Yugoslavia: “While we do not dispute the Vatican state answers solely to its God in matters of faith, in matters of finance the laws of Man apply.”

N.H. bishop to step down; once criticized for handling of Boston clergy abuse cases

Bishop John Brendan McCormack, whose handling of clergy sex abuse cases in the Boston archdiocese drew criticism after the clergy abuse scandal broke in 2002, is retiring from his post leading the Manchester, N.H., diocese.

McCormack, who has reached the mandatory retirement age of 75, will be replaced by the Rev. Peter Anthony Libasci, said a statement from the Diocese of Manchester.

McCormack will continue to lead the diocese until Libasci is named bishop in December.
A Massachusetts native, McCormack served at parishes in Salem, Peabody, and Malden-Medford. In 1984, he was appointed as the top aide to Cardinal Bernard F. Law, where he was in charge of investigating sexual abuse complaints in the Boston archdiocese.

His work as Law’s aide was criticized in 2002 when the clergy sex abuse scandal erupted, and many called on McCormack to resign, saying he had been involved in shuffling child-abusing priests from parish to parish.

McCormack later admitted that he had not done enough to help the victims. In 1995, he was ordained as a bishop and served as regional bishop for the South Region of Boston until 1998 when he was appointed the ninth bishop of Manchester. He announced his retirement in August 2010.

Earlier this week, San Bernardino Diocese officials announced that a retired priest and former high school teacher, Father Robert J. Donat, has been accused of sexual abuse by at least one boy. Donat taught at Aquinas High School. He now lives and works in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

It takes an extreme amount of bravery for a victim to come forward and report abuse by a trusted priest and high school teacher. We hope that if there are any more victims - of Donat or any other priest in the Diocese of San Bernardino or the Archdiocese of Los Angeles - that they come forward and seek help from law enforcement and self-help groups like ours, not church officials.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A priest of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland has been placed on leave following a court complaint that he molested a minor in the late 1970s.

The Rev. Matthew Ischay, 62, associate pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church in Akron, was accused in a civil action filed last month in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, said diocese spokesman Robert Tayek. The lawsuit could not be immediately obtained, so it is not known where Ischay was working when the alleged incident occurred.

Ischay was placed on leave early this month, and St. Paul members learned of the accusation from a diocesan letter read during Masses last weekend.

"While on administrative leave, Father Ischay will not be permitted to engage in any form of priestly ministry, wear clerical attire or reside on parish property," according to a statement issued by the diocese on its website.

Priest accused of molestation in Arlington is defrocked

Rudolf J. Rentería, who was accused of molesting a 14-year-old Arlington boy while a priest, has been defrocked, the Fort Worth Roman Catholic Diocese announced in its newspaper.
The man who accused Rentería settled his lawsuit with the diocese in July 2010. As part of the settlement, Bishop Kevin Vann was asked to petition the Vatican to return Rentería to lay status, said the man's attorney, Tahira Khan Merritt of Dallas.

Merritt said she was surprised that the diocese didn't inform the family when Rentería was defrocked in December.

Instead, Merritt told the family after seeing the small announcement this month. The family, which still lives in Arlington, was "thrilled, of course," she said. But "the bishop should have called them."

Vann was out of town Thursday and not available for comment. Diocese spokesman Pat Svacina said that Vann worked hard to get Rentería dismissed from the priesthood and that it was personally important to him.

The Rev. Francis Drabiska was charged Thursday with one count of theft by unlawful taking, according to the complaint. He was arraigned before District Judge Ross Cioppa and released on a non-monetary bond.Drabiska resigned from the Word of God parish last year, and allegedly admitted the theft to church authorities, but the amount wasn't mentioned at that time.

Joseph Jeyapaul might never face trial for what he did to Megan Peterson, but the Crookston Diocese has made its own choice not to fight the case.

Yesterday, Peterson's attorney Jeff Anderson announced a "groundbreaking" settlement of $750,000, with the Diocese paying out large amount for Jeyapaul's long-ago sin.

Along with the sum of money, the Diocese has agreed to post Jeyapaul's picture and information about the case on its website. It has also promised to reach out to and work with other potential victims of Jeyapaul's.

In his press conference, with a visibly upset Peterson by his side, Anderson said the lawsuit and settlement were about more than what Jeyapaul did to Peterson.

"We are here today because we are scared -- we are very scared," Anderson said. "We are scared because we know that Joseph Jeyapaul, a priest from India, raped Megan as a child. We know he did it to others, and we also know that he was allowed to flee to India. And we also know that Joseph Jeyapaul, the priest offender, has been and was in ministry -- and still is, as far as we know."

US diocese settles Indian priest child sex abuse case

CHICAGO — An Indian priest who molested several young girls in the United States remains a threat to children in India, a lawyer for one of his victims said Tuesday in announcing a $750,000 settlement.

Reverend Joseph Jeyapaul returned to India before the charges came to light and has not yet returned to face criminal charges in the United States.

Attorneys for his US victim said they believe he is still in active ministry in India working as the administrator of 40 schools.

"We're scared for those kids in India," said attorney Jeffrey Anderson, who has filed scores of claims on behalf of victims of child sex abuse by priests.

"We are concerned that he's still in ministry and we know that he still has access to kids."

Jeyapaul -- who was temporarily assigned to the Diocese of Crookston in Minnesota in 2004 -- was accused of repeatedly molesting a 16-year-old girl in the rectory.

August 29, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A settlement has been reached in a priest sex abuse case in Chicago that dates back more than 25 years.

Now the victim, Angel Santiago Jr., is talking about the abuse he says he endured by former priest Joseph Fitzharris, who employed Santiago's father.

Relatives say Santiago stayed away from church, became withdrawn and turned into a fearful young man. Years later, they would learn what happened and that he kept quiet so his father wouldn't lose his job at the church.

The church where Fitzharris served on the Northwest Side has a new name but in the 1980s it was known as St. Francis Xavier. It was the center of spiritual and social life for the Santiagos. Angel Santiago Sr. was a custodian there for 14 years. The settlement with the Archdiocese of Church confirms that Fitzharris was abusing Angel Jr. After his father's death, Santiago broke his silence.

A FORMER priest at Salesian College in Rupertswood was jailed last week for the sexual abuse of a 12-year-old student 28 years ago.

Michael Aulsebrook, 55, was in charge of year 7 and 8 students in 1983 when he began sexually assaulting the male student.

The County Court heard that the boy was confused about what Aulsebrook was doing and did not tell clergy until 2004, when he was involved in mediation with the church and received a payout.

Judge Tim Wood said Aulsebrook was a brother of the Salesian order at the time of the offences and later became a priest.

After two years of consultation and planning, the Boston archdiocese has released the names of 157 Catholic priests who have been either confirmed or accused of sexually abusing children. There are no previously unpublicized names on the list.

The release was made when the archdiocese posted a new website that includes the priests’ parish history and the status of their accusations or guilt. The list also includes two deacons, for a total of 159 clerics.

The new list includes more than 30 defrocked or suspended priests who were assigned to South Shore parishes between the 1960s and the 1980s. Among them are some of the archdiocese’s most notorious abusers, such as Paul Shanley and John Hanlon. Nine of those who served on the South Shore are deceased, including John Geoghan, a former parish priest in Hingham who was murdered in prison.

Former Chicago priest sued for sex abuse

A lawsuit has been filed by a Chicago teenager who claims he was a victim of a former Roman Catholic priest.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in Cook County Circuit Court accuses Daniel McCormack, the former priest at St. Agatha Catholic Church, of abusing the boy between 2004 and 2006.

Attorney Jeff Anderson says his client was abused after McCormack was questioned by police and a church review board recommended his removal.

McCormack pleaded guilty in 2007 to abusing five children and served 2 ½ years of a five-year sentence. He remains in a state mental health facility under the Sexually Violent Persons Commitment Act.

The long-awaited list the Archdiocese of Boston published yesterday of priests accused of sexually abusing children, the most complete and detailed compilation since the sex abuse scandal exploded nearly a decade ago, contains the names of 40 clergy who served on the North Shore.

There are accused Catholic priests from Salem, Peabody, Beverly, Danvers, Ipswich, Marblehead and other area communities. In many cases, the alleged crimes took place decades ago and at other parishes.

Of the many North Shore names, one of the most recognized will be the late Rev. Joseph Birmingham, an accused serial pedophile who was charged with crimes across Greater Boston, including abusing many young boys in the 1960s at St. James Parish in Salem.

Michael Baker, whose case was at the center of a costly priest abuse scandal that rocked the Los Angeles archdiocese, was scheduled to leave prison after serving half of a 10-year sentence.

But the district attorney's office, acting under a provision known as Jessica's Law, stepped in to block his release.

In a petition filed in Superior Court, prosecutors said Baker is a sexually violent predator who would be likely to commit further crimes if released.

Suit: Former Catholic priest molested boy

Another lawsuit was filed Friday claiming that former Catholic priest Daniel McCormack sexually abused a boy while at St. Agatha parish in the Lawndale neighborhood.

The plaintiff, who uses the name John Doe 184 in the lawsuit, claims that McCormack begin sexually molesting him when he was 11-or-12 years-old in 2004 while the boy helped with chores at the parish, located at 3151 W. Douglas Blvd., according to the suit filed in Cook County Court.

After the incidents, McCormack would reward the boy for his help at the church and lure him back for more “projects” with money, gift cards, cash or a video game, the suit said.

The abuse continued until just prior to McCormack being arrested and charged in Jan. 2006 with sexually molesting two boys on multiple occasions, the suit said.

Fr Godwin Scerri, who is wanted in Canada on charges of sexual abuse and who is entangled in another high profile case of alleged sexual abuse at St Joseph’s Home in Malta, is one of 22 priests who have faced prison, probation or lawsuits in the London Diocese of Ontario, Canada.

In April 2010, the Ontario Provincial Police resurrected the case against Fr Scerri, who was charged in June 1993 for sexually abusing minors between 1983 and 1987 when he served at St William’s Church in Emeryville. He had fled to his native Malta and search and arrest warrants remain open in his respect in Canada.

And while the Ontario police are hoping to be able to extradite Fr Scerri, ongoing proceedings in Malta in relation to the St Joseph’s Home case are hindering such efforts.

BELLEVILLE -- The Illinois Supreme Court for the second time has denied a request by the Catholic Diocese of Belleville to hear an appeal of a St. Clair County Court jury verdict awarding $5 million to a former altar boy jurors found was sexually abused by a priest.

The only remaining avenue for appeal is to the U.S. Supreme Court, but only if a constitutional question can be raised.

St. Louis attorney David Wells filed the motion on behalf of the diocese asking the state appeals court to reconsider its original denial on May 25 on grounds that the award threatened the religious freedom of Illinois residents.

News is flying around the web today about the Miami catholic church and its not good. The stories all revolve around an expose’ that outed the Southern church for a laundry list of illegal practices. The priests involved now referred to as the “Lavender crime family” stole hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions. And the corruption goes right up to the top, as the Miami Arch Bishop ran the whole show like the John Gotti of gay. According to the allegations the Lavender crime family was going out to expensive dinners, taking boys on vacation to the Florida Keys, purchasing luxury properties, and of course my personal favorite they even tried investing in a stay hard Yohimbe product.

Here is a brief list of the allegations facing the Catholic Church in Miami.

A priest who’s been previously mentioned in this story was known to plan regular “sleepovers” with seminarians at his rectory in southwest Miami, and owned a “luxury” property.
A homosexual priest in Coral Gables owned “luxury” property and regularly used illicit drugs.
A homosexual priest who served as principal at one of the Archdiocese’s high schools poached sexual partners from among the seminarians at St. John Vianney.
A homosexual priest in far, far south Miami kept attractive young men living in his rectory.
A homosexual priest in the town of Miramar was co-habitating with his lover, who’s also a parishioner.
A homosexual priest in Miami had a lover who was also a priest in the Florida Keys. They co-owned a condominium at a Yacht Club.
A member of the Archdiocesan Tribunal owned a condominium on ritzy Bayshore Drive, in Miami, with his male lover.
An Archdiocesan official, previously mentioned in this article, sought out “young boys from third-world countries, from unprivileged backgrounds, and recruited them for the Archdiocese’s seminaries. These men [were] groomed to engage in sexual relationships with the older homosexual priests of the Archdiocese.” Until 1998, this official owned a home with a male lover in northern Miami.
Two homosexual priests, each with his own Miami parish, co-habitated in Miami Shores.
